Port Priorities.
Good-Paying Jobs.
I worked hard with my fellow commissioners to implement the historic Project Labor Agreement (PLA) to provide good paying jobs for our local trades. The PLA provides access to a reliable supply of well-trained, highly-skilled workers and helps keep projects on time and on budget. This is the type of real win-wins for the Port, our labor force, and the community, that I am committed to bringing to the Port. As part of the PLA, the Port and labor will participate in the “Helmets to Hardhats” program. As a veteran, I am especially proud of this program because it assists in creating and maintaining an integrated database of veterans interested in Port projects and participating in apprenticeship opportunities.
Environment.
As we strived to make the Port the greenest in the U.S., my fellow Commissioners and I, Implemented the Environmental Management Framework (EMF) to help guide the integration of sustainability into the Port’s day-to-day operations. The EMF has guided the Port to protecting the environment and supporting a healthy quality of life. Since then the Port received the Comprehensive Environmental Management Award, American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) awarded the Port of Hueneme the high accolade “2018 Comprehensive Environmental Management Award, ” and The Greenest Port at 2017’s US Green Shipping Summit.
Partnerships & Coalitions.
I will continue to work diligently with city, county, and federal agencies to foster responsible growth, which translates to additional good-paying jobs while keeping our environment at the forefront of my decisions. More importantly, I will help vital partnerships to preserve our shoreline to be enjoyed by our community.
